Aviation History and Crafts programs

at the

Lucile M. Wright Air Museum

Learn about famous aircraft, legendary pilots and the history of aviation while building your own cut and assemble model of one of our featured airplanes!

Each of these programs features a short talk followed by a craft session.

Our current offerings are:

Stealth: its history, how it works, why it is important.

This session includes a free Stealth Fighter model or F-22 Raptor, and instruction on how to build it.

Leonardo and his flying machines:

He may have been the greatest inventor of his age but that doesn’t mean his ideas actually work!

Includes a model of Leonardo’s “Air screw” helicopter. Can you make yours fly?

The Great Aviation Pioneers of the Thirties:

Charles Lindbergh, Wiley Post and Amelia Earhart.

Includes a model of Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis or one of the legendary Gee Bee Racers

The Greatest Weapon of the War?

How Aircraft Took to the Sea in World War II

Build your choice of an American Wildcat or a Japanese Zero.

Wild and Weird: Strange Solutions for New Problems:

Unusual experimental aircraft from the Fifties and Sixties

Chose from such post-war oddities at the Convair Pogo, the Sea Dart, or the XF-85 Goblin parasite fighter

Our programs are open to all groups interested in learning about aviation.

These sessions available by appointment. Contact us to request your date!

We will provide the needed materials and equipment, but it would help if participants brought a small box with them to take their model home afterwards.

Please note that all participants must be able to handle using scissors and glue, although simpler models will be available upon request for less skilled students.

Further programs will be added at later date.

If you have a particular aircraft or period you are interested in that isn't on our list, let us know!
